The Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging is hosting the 2009 Friedman Conference April 21 at the Eric P. Newman Education Center from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

The conference, titled "In the Words of the Artist: The Influence of Age on Creativity and Expression," focuses on the ways artists experience the aging process and how it affects creativity and expression.

Presenters include Gene D. Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Center on Aging, Health & Humanities, George Washington University; and Joel Meyerowitz, internationally recognized photographer of Ground Zero.

A panel of St. Louis artists, including Jan Greenberg, author; Amy Kaiser, director of the St. Louis Symphony Chorus; Gyo Obata, architect and founding partner of HOK; and Michael Uthoff, artistic and executive director of Dance St. Louis, will share insights on how their art has evolved and been affected by the aging process.

Carmon Colangelo, dean of the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, and Laurna Godwin, president of Vector Communications, will serve as moderators.

The program is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. To register, visit centerforaging.wustl.edu or call 286-2441.
